SIFF opening gala tonight with Charlize Theron, Stuart Townsend
It’s that time of year again. The Seattle International Film Festival takes over Seattle with 25 days of more than 400 films. It’s the 34th year for the festival, and tonight’s gala is the splashy beginning of it all.
Between 5:30 and 7 p.m., some big names are expected to grace the red carpet leading into McCaw Hall at Seattle Center: Academy Award-winning actress Charlize Theron (”Monster”) and her director boyfriend, Stuart Townsend. Both are scheduled to be in town to help promote “Battle in Seattle,” the movie being shown tonight as part of opening festivities.
Although the semi-fictionalized account of the 1999 WTO protests was shot mostly in Hollywood North (aka Vancouver, B.C.), Townsend did some shooting here, and I stood in the rain for hours just to get a glimpse of Theron and Townsend and the film’s other stars as they shot a protest march down Fourth Avenue.
If you’re lucky enough — or willing to pay — the VIP option will get you some cushy accommodations pre- and post-screening. Otherwise, like me, you’ll be wandering with the rest of the masses in Exhibition Hall, trying to see if this will be a better party than last year’s. Who knows? The star glow that Theron and Townsend might lend to the evening could translate to good times.
Don’t count on being able to get a VIP ticket at this point, at least not for tonight. But regular tickets are still available.
If you’re interested in other movies throughout the festival, check on SIFF’s tickets page. Or you can go to SIFF Cinema (321 Mercer St. at McCaw Hall, Seattle Center) and the SIFF Main Office (400 Ninth Ave. N. in South Lake Union), which are also fully functioning box offices.
Video: Wii Fit Sex Appeal, Carmen Electra Topless Pole Dancing Game
Nintendo’s Wii Fit game launches on Monday in the United States after a very successful start in the UK and in Japan. Like all of the other Wii games, the new disc is designed to get people off of the couch and moving around for a little excer-gaming. But will some of that moving around include Carmen Electra and a pole dancing game?
Peekaboo Pole Dancing would like to have the game included and why not, it certainly is incredible exercise with a bit of sexiness and fun mixed in. There are ladies of all ages taking pole-dancing classes all over the US to get in shape and get toned and develop some sexy bedroom moves. Could Carmen Electra help them out with a virtual pole dancing work out?
It is still unclear if Carmen will be involved (one reporr says she will another says she won’t) but a report from News.Com from Australia cites a company release that says, “We are pleased to confirm that Peekaboo is in talks to develop a game for the Nintendo Wii that meets mainstream demand for the fun and fitness benefits of pole dancing.” So what would the game be rated and how would it work?
Details are very sketchy. A video shows how the Wii game works and notes that in America, over one million units will be likely sold this week alone. The link to the video is here and the game that fits the traditional Wii console is in stores everywhere on Monday.

Angelina Jolie Due Date Two Weeks Away
According to sources, Angelina Jolie is due to give birth in less than two weeks despite her Kung Fu Panda co-star Dustin Hoffman claiming her due date was August 19. The actress allegedly corrected the due date reports during an interview with a French TV network.
Jolie’s other co-star, Jack Black, confirmed that she was expecting twins. The actress and her partner Brad Pitt refused to reveal the gender of the babies.
This will be the fifth and sixth children for Jolie and Pitt. They already have a biological daughter and three adopted children.
ANGELINA JOLIE - U.K. TABLOID PUBLISHES JOLIE ‘DRUG VIDEO’
British tabloid newspaper has published images of a video which allegedly shows ANGELINA JOLIE in a “drugs den” with a woman who is openly smoking heroin.
The actress is shown in video images published in The Sun newspaper looking dishevelled and wide-eyed as she smokes a cigarette and tells the camera of her past drug use.
The video captures the star reportedly saying, “I’ve done coke, heroin, ecstasy, LSD, everything.”
Last month (Apr08), it was reported by America’s National Enquirer a videotape of Jolie allegedly smoking and snorting heroin had been offered for sale for $70,000 (GBP35,000).
But in this footage, thought to be taken in the 1990s when she was in her 20s, Jolie does not take drugs, telling the camera, “I gave them up long ago.”
However, she allegedly discusses her interest in bizarre sex games, claiming that taking part in sexual activity where people get hurt is “just a cool thing”.
Jolie, who has three adopted children, a biological daughter and is expecting twins with actor partner Brad Pitt, has spoken out about her past substance abuse before, once saying, “I hate heroin because I’ve been fascinated with it. I’m not immune, but I won’t do it now, at all.”
It is not known if the video referred to in The Sun newspaper is the same video reported as up for sale by the National Enquirer.
Ruffalo, Adams team for comedy-drama
CANNES (Hollywood Reporter) - Mark Ruffalo and Amy Adams are attached to star in writer-director Noah Baumbach’s next feature.
Plot details are being under wraps for “Greenburg,” which is said to be a relationship comedy-drama. United Talent Agency is shopping the project in Cannes and financing is being assembled. While no timetable is set for principal photography, producer Scott Rudin is aiming to shoot this year.
Rudin produced “Margot at the Wedding,” Baumbach’s 2007 follow-up to his breakthrough drama “The Squid and the Whale.”
Adams was recently in theaters with the Disney hit “Enchanted,” while Ruffalo stars in “Blindness,” which had its world premiere as the opening-night movie at the Cannes Film Festival last week.
Angelina Jolie sells mums home
Washington, May 19 (ANI): More thana year after her mothers death, Angelina Jolie has finally sold the California house Marcheline Bertrand called home.
Bertrand lost her battle with ovarian cancer January 2007 at the age of 56, and pals claimed that Jolie had since struggled to let go of the pad, which was full of memories.
A source told the National Enquirer that though the actress had been urged to sell the place, she had been unable to do so until now, reports Contactmusic quoted.
“They were incredibly close. Marcheline was an actress as well, and responsible for getting Angelina involved in film,” the source said.
“She had been urged to sell the place by family and friends, but wanted to hold on to one of the last things she could touch or feel of her mother’s spirit.
“Finally, after more than a year, she tearfully let it go,” the source added.
Pregnant Jolie recently admitted that she and partner Brad Pitt would be welcoming twins into the family. However, she refused to reveal whether the babies would be boys or girls. (ANI)

Aishwarya’s Cannes journey
Representing Bollywood at the biggest event in world cinema, Cannes, is none other than Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. This is the fourth time the actress is attending the film festival.
Eversince Devdas was screened there in 2002, Aishwarya Rai has been almost a regular at Cannes.
Her role in the film won her international recognition and the next year, she attended the film festival as a member of the jury.
“The designers are so excited and so generous and so creative and they come up with so many ideas that you actually get spoiled for choice. It gets very, very difficult to be able to zero in and decide on which one to wear,” says Aishwarya.
In 2007, after her marriage with Abhishek Bachchan, the couple attended the festival together. Much to the envy of women the world over, Rai has consistently looked stunning on the red carpet.
Since her first stint with fame as Miss World in 1994, Aishwarya has been very successful as an actress, both in India and abroad.
In her upcoming release Sarkar Raj, the beautiful lady stars opposite hubby Abhishek and daddy-in-law Amitabh Bachchan.
“I have fantastic in-laws and I think that’s when a girl’s blessed. When you don’t feel you’ve gone to a new home or a foreign home. When you feel as comfortable with them as your parents and the similar friendship, it’s great,” says the beautiful actress.
Aishwarya’s next english language release is Pink Panther 2 in February 2009. The film also stars Steve Martin, Jean Reno and Andy Garcia.
